Changing Times

How did it get to be fall already?! As Hannah mentioned in her previous post, fall is our favorite season. Growing up in Upstate, NY we always experienced beautiful, color autumns, we were spoiled with delightfully cool (but comfortable) days and bright red, yellow and orange leaves everywhere you looked. While we always embraced fall, we knew it was a transition (sometimes a quick one – there were many Halloweens spent in snow!). As we shift into this ever-changing and unpredictable season, here are few transition pieces to guide you through. The best part: these pieces can be used year round! Stock up now and you’ll be able to save a few pennies come June.

Nothing is as versatile as a cute, quirky sweater. Layer this over more and more bases as the seasons get colder. When warm weather finally appears waaaay down the road, be sure to take it with you when you head out in the evening (movie theaters always seem to be cold, don’t they?).

I love these printed pants. While it’s still warm, show those ankles with cute shoes. When the chill sets in, pull on some boots or layer up with tights!

I love these wedges! Great colors for year round wear. Pair them with some thick tights in the coming months, then show them off with bare legs and a cute sundress in warmer temps.

Hannah and I both own this scarf. It’s large enough to wear it like a shawl, letting the breeze come through the linen, but also can be wrapped to keep your neck warm. And it comes in tons of great brights!

Ask any girl – regardless of her style – and she probably has a cardigan in her closet. I love this classic simple one – worn around your shoulders over a sundress in summer but also perfect for layering to go apple picking and on fall hayrides!

What are your transition pieces?

Real Girl Style

Look: Work Denim

Since denim seems to be a big trend that has stuck, I wanted to find a way to incorporate the look into a work appropriate outfit. I paired black pants, a silk shell tank, with a ruffle grey denim jacket – a bit different from the traditional one, giving it a more professional feel.

Real Girl Style

One of the topics we want to focus on with this blog is what we’ll call “real girl style.” We don’t work in fashion, but love it and we want to share with you our styles!

One of the ways that we’ll share with you is pics like the ones below: quick ones, taken with a phone, before leaving for work. Doesn’t get more real than that! No extra time putting on make-up, doing styling, etc. Yep, I’m sitting here, typing this, keeping my eye on the clock to make sure that I end up at my desk in time! There will be days when we can spend more time putting together looks and offering a bit more about how to creatively demonstrate your style (and taking better quality pics), but we also want to keep this as true to reality as possible!

Look: Rule Breaker

I like to call this look a “Rule Breaker” look, in homage to the outdated (in my opinion) rule of not wearing white until after Memorial Day.
