Changing Times

How did it get to be fall already?! As Hannah mentioned in her previous post, fall is our favorite season. Growing up in Upstate, NY we always experienced beautiful, color autumns, we were spoiled with delightfully cool (but comfortable) days and bright red, yellow and orange leaves everywhere you looked. While we always embraced fall, we knew it was a transition (sometimes a quick one – there were many Halloweens spent in snow!). As we shift into this ever-changing and unpredictable season, here are few transition pieces to guide you through. The best part: these pieces can be used year round! Stock up now and you’ll be able to save a few pennies come June.

Nothing is as versatile as a cute, quirky sweater. Layer this over more and more bases as the seasons get colder. When warm weather finally appears waaaay down the road, be sure to take it with you when you head out in the evening (movie theaters always seem to be cold, don’t they?).

I love these printed pants. While it’s still warm, show those ankles with cute shoes. When the chill sets in, pull on some boots or layer up with tights!

I love these wedges! Great colors for year round wear. Pair them with some thick tights in the coming months, then show them off with bare legs and a cute sundress in warmer temps.

Hannah and I both own this scarf. It’s large enough to wear it like a shawl, letting the breeze come through the linen, but also can be wrapped to keep your neck warm. And it comes in tons of great brights!

Ask any girl – regardless of her style – and she probably has a cardigan in her closet. I love this classic simple one – worn around your shoulders over a sundress in summer but also perfect for layering to go apple picking and on fall hayrides!

What are your transition pieces?

We’re Back!

After a much too long hiatus – we are back! And just in time for our favorite season – fall! To kick start our return, we thought we’d show you some inspiration for the upcoming months.

Elevated Style

Fashion has gotten expensive. This isn’t exactly news, but it sometimes still blows my mind how much things cost – $900 for a tee-shirt? $500 for a pair of flats? In this day, when one item in your outfit can cost almost as much as a month of rent, more and more companies that were once viewed as less-than-trendy are designing products that are affordable and stylish. Here are a couple to check out:

1. Birkenstock – Once known for simple 2-strap sandals, this company has grown to make some of the cutest and most comfortable sandals. I’ve had 2 fun pairs for a few years now and STILL get compliments. People are always surprised to find out that my metallic silver toe-wrap sandals or my t-strap black patent sandals are made by Birkenstock. They also have many veg-friendly options! (All options below found here and here.)

2. Land’s End. The source of many grade school backpacks and plain turtlenecks has developed a younger, more stylish line called Canvas. They have many cute options including fun dresses and comfy chambray shirts!

Where have you found affordable, stylish pieces?

Summer Style: The Beach Tunic

With Memorial Day just around the corner, I find myself constantly browsing pages and pages of cute new bathing suits and cover ups. I have gone on many beach vacations throughout my life and recently went through some of my old swimwear (some of which was probably was still from high school and well past its expiration date). Therefore, I’m in need of some new suits and cover ups. I love the look of a light tunic that you can pair with a bottom or wear solo. I have been lusting after the Tory Burch tunic for quite some time but unfortunately don’t feel like my current budget can allocate to a $300 cover up (but hopefully someday!). In the mean time, I’ve found some more wallet-friendly alternatives. Wear these on their own to the beach or pool and then throw on some cut-off shorts and strappy sandals when grabbing a bite to eat.

  1. J.Crew Whisper Gauze Beachcomber Tunic
  2. Billabong Fringe Beach Cover-Up
  3. Madewell Lowtide Tunic
  4. J.Crew Feather Paisley Tunic
  5. The Webster for Target Cotton Jacquard Tunic

What’s your favorite type of beach cover up?

Print Love

{Dress: Zachary’s Smile for Anthropologie, Shoes: Corso Como, Sunnies: Theory, Clutch: vintage Coach, Bracelets: Etsy/Tai/Dogeared/handmade from Africa, Cocktail ring: vintage (my grandma’s)}

I am a big fan of prints, especially for dresses. I’ve had this cute little number for a few years now and it never fails to disappoint. Comfortable (with pockets!), classic (a very flattering shape) and fun (the African print fabric makes me nostalgic for Cape Town). I like to pair it with fun accessories – great for work or going out!

Spring in bloom

One of my favorite trends for spring is the flower printed pants that seem to be popping up everywhere! As a kid who wore a pair of flower printed stretch leggings until they were filled with holes, I’m psyched to see this bright and fun option. And you don’t have to spend a ton (if you’re worried that by next year, blooms will no longer be big) – I recently purchased a great pair from H&M for less than $20 (seen in the bottom row, far left pic)!

Tell us – would you rock this trend? What other trends are you loving?
